NMAF partners with Indigo Books & Music on Ontario newsstand promotion

For the third year, the National Magazine Awards Foundation (NMAF) is partnering with Indigo Books & Music Inc. to launch an Ontario-wide newsstand promotion designed to increase awareness about Canada’s best magazines in 2016 published in both official languages.

With this strategic initiative, the NMAF strives to provide award-winning Canadian nma_medalistdisplay_2016_square_v1publishers the opportunity to cost-effectively maintain or improve newsstand sales, subscriptions and magazine visibility within the highly competitive North American market by jointly marketing their nationally recognized award on newsstands.

For eight weeks starting today, this year’s participating award-winning publications will be displayed in a special NMA newsstand frame in all Ontario Indigo superstores. Magazines taking part in this initiative include 2016 Magazine of the Year winner Maisonneuve, as well as award winners Canadian Notes & Queries, Cottage Life, DTK Men, Maclean’s, Ricardo, Sportsnet, The Walrus, THIS Magazine and Toronto Life.

The NMAF, whose mandate is to recognize and promote award-winning Canadian magazines and content, strives to implement initiatives that help publications thrive in the evolving magazine industry. With this newsstand promotional campaign, the Foundation is providing publishers with a distinctive opportunity to leverage their prestigious award in order to maximize their impact on newsstands.

This promotional initiative was launched for the first time in 2014. Last year, a total of 7,852 magazine copies from 18 different publications from were sold during the six week campaign (Oct-Nov) which generated 173% more revenue than the year before.

With this strategic initiative, made possible thanks to the generous support of the Ontario Media Development Corporation and the Government of Canada, the NMAF strives to provide award-winning Canadian publishers the opportunity to cost-effectively maintain or improve newsstand sales, subscriptions and magazine visibility within the highly competitive North American market by jointly marketing their nationally recognized award on newsstands.

From October 19th to November 29th, this year’s participating award-winning publications will be displayed in a special NMA newsstand frame in 91 Indigo superstores across the country. Magazines taking part in this initiative include 2015 Magazine of the Year winner Nouveau Projet, as well as award winners Canadian Business, Chatelaine, Cottage Life, FASHION Magazine, L’actualité, Maclean’s, Maisonneuve, MoneySense, Sportsnet, The New Quarterly, The Walrus, Today’s Parent, Toronto Life, Vancouver Magazine and Western Living.

The NMAF, whose mandate is to recognize and promote award-winning Canadian magazines and content, strives to implement initiatives that help publications thrive in the evolving magazine industry. With this newsstand promotional campaign, the Foundation is providing publishers with a distinctive opportunity to leverage their prestigious award in order to maximize their impact on newsstands.

This promotional initiative was launched for the first time in 2014. During the four weeks of the pilot project, 3,401 copies of 15 NMA award-winning titles were sold and a number of participating magazines reported an increase in sales varying from 15% to 67%.

Legion, Canada’s History, Style at Home among winners at Canadian Cover Awards

Last night Magazines Canada and Circulation Management Association of Canada co-presented the 2015 Canadian Cover Awards at the Courtyard Toronto Downtown.

Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were presented in 8 categories for this year’s awards.

NMAF Newsstand Displays at Chapters Indigo extended until Nov 2

As part of its mandate to promote award-winning Canadian magazines to readers across the country, the NMAF has partnered with Indigo Books & Music Inc to showcase this year’s National Magazine Award winners in special displays at 91 Chapters and Indigo bookstores across the country, and now this special publicity effort has been extended until November 2.

Visit your nearest Chapters or Indigo bookstore and look for the special displays, and pick up a copy of National Magazine Award-winning titles like Chatelaine, Azure, ELLE Canada, Fashion Magazine, The Walrus and Cottage Life, Canada’s Magazine of the Year.

NMAF partners with Indigo Books & Music Inc in Newsstand Promotion

The National Magazine Awards Foundation (NMAF) is pleased to announce the launch of a nationwide newsstand promotion designed to increase awareness about Canada’s top award-winning magazines. This strategic partnership with Indigo Books & Music, Inc, part of the NMAF’s mandate to promote award-winning magazines and content, will run from September 22 to October 18. During this period, this year’s eligible winning publications will be featured in a special NMA display in 91 Indigo and Chapters superstores across the country.

More specifically, the objective of this initiative is to significantly increase single-copy sales of award-winning magazines by providing publishers with the opportunity to leverage their prestigious, nationally recognized award through a group marketing effort to increase newsstand sales, magazine awareness, and future subscriptions in a cost-effective manner.

While print publications are rising to meet the challenges and opportunities of the digital era, the newsstand remains a significant place of reader engagement. With this promotion, the NMAF’s goal is to provide magazines with a unique opportunity to showcase their award-winning status and to maximize their impact on the newsstand.

Participating magazines include Magazine of the Year winner Cottage Life, as well as award winners Azure, Chatelaine, ELLE Canada, FASHION Magazine, fshnunlimited (f.u.), Little Brother, Maclean’s, Prefix Photo, Sharp, Sportsnet, The Walrus, This Magazine, Toronto Life, and the United Church Observer.
