NMA Winner Benoit Aquin’s new photo exhibit of Haiti

On Saturday, April 14, National Magazine Award-winning photojournalist Benoit Aquin hosted a reception for his latest exhibit at the Stephen Bulger Gallery in Toronto. The collection, titled Haïti, focuses on the recovery and resilience of this nation plagued by natural disasters, political unrest, and poverty.

Aquin made his first trip to Haiti fifteen years ago and has been a regular visitor and documenter ever since. The people and culture have touched him deeply, and the collection on exhibit at the Stephen Bulger Gallery until April 28 was amassed over several trips made in the months following the January 2010 earthquake. It showcases a vibrant people determined to pick up their lives after the disaster.

Aquin’s work has appeared in several magazines including Report on Business,  Maclean’s and Canadian Geographic. He won a National Magazine Award in 2007 for “The Chinese Dust Bowl” published in The Walrus.

If you’re in Toronto this month you should check it out. We hope to see more of Benoit’s thought-provoking work in the future.
